Internet Seer Broken!

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

I just received an uptime report from Internet Seer. Now, it goes up to Wednesday, so there are only 3 days showing, which is fine. What is broken, is the fact that I have 0.11, 0.12, 0.11 connection times, and an average connection time of 0.05!

Day Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri Sat Sun Weekly
Total
Date 09/17 09/18 09/19 09/20 09/21 09/22 09/23
Outages 0 0 0 ** ** ** ** 0
Time on error 00:00 00:00 00:00 ** ** ** ** 00:00
% Uptime 100.0 100.0 100.0 ** ** ** ** 100.0
Connect time 0.11 0.12 0.11 ** ** ** ** 0.05

What has happened, is their algorithm is using the whole week for the average, and any missing data is counted as 0. i.e. 0.11 + 0.12 + 0.11 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 / 7 ~ 0.05. I tried to email them to tell them their algorithm is broken, but there appears to be NO email contact on their website. There are only website forms to submit questions…which you have to register with Internet Seer to even ask!

Things I Hate About Ubuntu 6.10

Monday, September 17th, 2007

Ok I love the idea of Ubuntu. And when I installed it on my desktop system, some 12 months ago, it was great…until I started installing software and customizing it ;)

#1 Thing I Hate About Ubuntu Today: There is no “Kill” option when you right click on the menubar of an application.

WindowMaker has this. It’s useful, because much open source software is either
(a) Outdated meaning you wind up going for the beta version
or
(b) Released without proper testing so that it is effectively the beta version just retagged as “stable”

OpenOffice on this box just keeps freezing on me today sigh. Maybe the next version of Ubuntu will be better ;)

The Irony of Road Rage

Monday, September 3rd, 2007

I was traveling down Wannerroo Road yesterday morning, and it’s a weird road that seems to change from 60 to 70kmh and back again all the way along. I noticed I was speeding, and I don’t want a speeding ticket at this point, so I slowed back to 60.

I was watching the car behind me get closer, and the driver didn’t look too happy - he overtook in his big Commodore. We got about 20 seconds down the road, and this police officer with a hand held radar walked out across the road into the right lane and waves the Commodore over. I love that irony heh :)

Maybe next time he’ll learn to invest in a radar detector…
