Yes, the JSON API documentation is much more conventional (and better!). How does one utilize this when creating event transforms though?

James,

the dmd is not really a user interface to Zenoss. As you've correctly identified, there are many methods which are cryptic, useless to users or even just straight up dangerous. We prefer admins to use our router/facade architecture.
These are much better documented and there is plenty of protection stopping you from breaking things. Documentation and code examples can be found under: http://community.zenoss.org/community/documentation/official_documentation/api (under JSON API Documentation)

The official help seems to be rather lacking on the half a dozen of those 614 I tried it on. On a couple it was fine e.g. the renameDevice, but that command is already rather obvious. The less obvious commands (i.e. manage_addSiteRootForm) are totally ambiguous.

12 commands is only about 2% so perhaps a bad sample size to draw conclusions from, but a built in help function as the only source of API help is a rather awful documentation standard to use in the first place in my opinion. The point I was trying to make was 'where is the developer support?'. How are administrators supposed to write meaningful efficient and maintainable plugins without easy access to good documentation?

As a comparison, most Perl CPAN modules will have built in help like the zendmd help function, but it is also made available as an organized pre-indexed hypertext page; something that is complete and easily referenced later on. I feel like I am missing something with ZenOSS but I just can't find basic official developer documentation that is actually complete. Even if someone setup a Doxygen run through the system as part of the build process it would probably be more complete than what I can find ;)

Try using the build in help function so for example help(d.renameDevice) will give you the official help or at least the method signature. Also. I like to use inspect in cases where there isn't any help. i.e.

from inspect import getsourcelines as gsl
for l in gsl(d.renameDevice): print l,

that will allow you to look at the source right from the dmd. Hope that helps.

From the Dell support site. I have 10.5.x though, I'm not sure if the driver will work on 10.6. It should though as it uses the CUPS system which didn't change operationally between 10.5 and 10.6. I don't know if the direct link will work but here it is:

http://supportapj.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?os=MAC1&catid=-1&dateid=-1&impid=-1&osl=EN&typeid=-1&formatid=-1&servicetag=&SystemID=PRN_LSR_1320C&hidos=WLH&hidlang=en&TabIndex=&scanSupported=False&scanConsent=False

Or just go to the normal Dell support site, Drivers and Downloads, search by model (printer -> 1320) and then select Mac OS downloads.

James
You state you found a driver for the Dell 1320c printer for mac OSX. Where did you find it ?
I have looked and looked - can't find it anywhere. I am trying to get it working on my i5 iMac. (Mac OSX 10.67).

Regards

I have a VB 3.2, this problem is solved as follows:
VBoxManage storageattach VM2 --storagectl "IDE Controller" --port 0 --device 0 --medium none
VBoxManage closemedium disk /home/cloned/hdd2.vdi
VBoxManage openmedium disk /home/cloned/hdd2.vdi
VBoxManage storageattach VM2 --storagectl "IDE Controller" --port 0 --device 0 --type hdd --medium /home/cloned/hdd2.vdi
"And all was good!"
Thus, the principle is the same!

Absolutely, most people who have been involved in software dev can understand that one :D

It would be nice if the Android marketplace or the LVContacts website stated that it is one way sync though...until 2-way sync is implemented. Then it would be nice to state that it is 2-way sync :)

Hi,
Just to let you know that 2-way sync and calendar sync are coming soon in lvsync but we're very late at delivering it, sorry but this is due to the fact that this app is a "spare time " project so don't expect us to be as responsive as some dedicated developers team. Anyway, this should be available soon. Regards.

I do have a bit of a guilty conscience. But I am a "live for the moment" kind of person, and prefer to have disposable income today, because I don't know if I'll even be alive 5-10 years from now, let alone 50.
